which demographic would most identify with the lifestyle represented in the still and the foals article in the independant?

The foals are a 5 piece indie rock band from Oxford, England. They are signed to the label "transgressive Records". The Article entitled "foals: why its creativity not fame that interestes them" is all about their rise to same and the music industry. The band consists of Yannis Phillippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith, Edwin Congreave and Walter Gervers. They started in 2005 and have mainly toured the uk but are now started to tour internationally. They play the "Reading and Leeds" festival almost every year which i think has helped them establised the fan base which they now have, 16-25's that go to festivals and listen to similar bands.

They come across as a friendly and genuine band, this is shown particulally in the quotes from the band in the article about growing up and wanting to be a musician and being in the music industry. The photo in the article shows the boys in a studenty style room and all with bizzare items in their hands. The caption on the photo states they are "art house rockers". Judging by the photo of the bands main fanbaseare of a similar age and background. I think that their main fan basea are 16-25 middle class people. They style of the boys and the fact that their article is in the independant suggests that the fans of the foals can access copies of the independant from their parents ect. In the picture in the article the look of the boys look well dress and tidy. they have fashionable haircuts and dress sense, This will influence the audeience to go and buy the clothes and get hair cuts that are indluenced by the band. The fact that the band have a blog as their main website links to their fanbase which are renoung as the "blogging generation" Foals were nominated for the mercuart music prize in 2010 but were beaten by the XX.

"we are like vultures" agrees phillipakis. If you take western pop music and other more culturally deiverse froms and turn them into carcesses, we are the vultures that pick at them and take what we like and create something new and wierd that still has elements of what existed before. Everything we do is about taking culturally diverse influences. i think there is an arrogance in making music like a british band, or like you are supposed to. I find it really insulting when people define their music by their class or nationality - like if you're working class you have to play a certain tyle of music. I dont think you can define culture in that sort of way"

I think the statement at the end of that quote is very true, just because their article is in the independant does not mean that they themselves are middle class however i think the way the newspaper represents them puts them across to a middle class background which isnt necessarily correct. The foals have also had articles in the guardian, Rocksound magazine, NME, the daily mail and the london metro. The image above shows the band as laid back, fashionable, twenty something guys who play good music and have a large, diverse fan base.
