This image shows how i am proposing to shoot my animation.
Cut out letters and images jumbled together, when animated they will represent the lyrics.

Mise en scene: Locations, Costume and Make Up, Props and objects - (unfinished, photos to follow)

The Locations of my filming are the
1) the grapes gig venue in sheffield
2) my house.

Simply, my animation is shot in my house and the Live shots of the band Jack and the beanstalks is shot in a venue in sheffield.
Props would be the images i use for animation, cut out letters, people ect. I will animate these in my video.
Costume is what the band will wear in the proformance shots.

Written Treatment - unfinished

My music video is a combination of stop motion animation and live shots of my band.
I will shoot my band shots at a live show in a venue in Sheffield. I will piece together many photos in order to make my stop motion titles and scenes. These will be put together in adobe flash and combined with the shots of the band in order to make my final video. It links fairly closely with the Blitzen Trapper video called Furr. What will make it effective is the use of both animation and video. The way that my images will link to the lyrics will make my video. This concept is original and different. It isn’t really influenced by anything other than the song, and the joke that the song is influenced by. I took literally all of my ideas purely from listening and reading through the lyrics in order to gain an understanding of what is happening.

Narcissism

Narcissism is the personality trait of egotism, vanity, conceit, or simple selfishness. Applied to a social group, it is sometimes used to denote elitism or an indifference to the plight of others.
The name "narcissism" was coined by Freud after Narcissus who in Greek myth was a pathologically self-absorbed young man who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool. Freud believed that some narcissism is an essential part of all of us from birth. Andrew P. Morrison claims that, in adults, a reasonable amount of healthy narcissism allows the individual's perception of his needs to be balanced in relation to others.

unfinished..

A music video that is similar to the video i propose to shoot is Furr by blitzen Trapper.
The titles of the music video are almost identical to the way i was proposing to shoot mine where by the band name is cut out in letters and then the letters are jumbled and re order themselves to spell the title of the song. I am animating it in a very similar way so that it flows perfectly into two seperate titles.
The rest of the video is fairly similar in the way that images are used and cut out in order to visually explain what is happening. In most stop motion videos the images are taken on a normal camera of people, places ect. The difference in my video is that i have used picutres ( like the Furr video) to create my video. Other parts of the video are of the band live, as there are fairly large parts of the song which are repetitive, especially the chorus and the bridge. The images explain the narrative of the lyrics and follow with the story of the song almost identically, to tell a story if you will. The narrative of the song is based on the common joke about a man who has an orange for a head.

I felt that animation really was the best way i could depict the song in a video.

First Draft Story Board.

This vague story board is the way in which i am starting to see my ideas unfold.
The majority of the video is filmed with stop motion animation and the remainder will be live shots of the band playing, mainly in the guitar solos or during the bridge. The narative based lyrics are all played out usuing words and characters based around those in the song.

which demographic would most identify with the lifestyle represented in the still and the foals article in the independant?

The foals are a 5 piece indie rock band from Oxford, England. They are signed to the label "transgressive Records". The Article entitled "foals: why its creativity not fame that interestes them" is all about their rise to same and the music industry. The band consists of Yannis Phillippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith, Edwin Congreave and Walter Gervers. They started in 2005 and have mainly toured the uk but are now started to tour internationally. They play the "Reading and Leeds" festival almost every year which i think has helped them establised the fan base which they now have, 16-25's that go to festivals and listen to similar bands.

They come across as a friendly and genuine band, this is shown particulally in the quotes from the band in the article about growing up and wanting to be a musician and being in the music industry. The photo in the article shows the boys in a studenty style room and all with bizzare items in their hands. The caption on the photo states they are "art house rockers". Judging by the photo of the bands main fanbaseare of a similar age and background. I think that their main fan basea are 16-25 middle class people. They style of the boys and the fact that their article is in the independant suggests that the fans of the foals can access copies of the independant from their parents ect. In the picture in the article the look of the boys look well dress and tidy. they have fashionable haircuts and dress sense, This will influence the audeience to go and buy the clothes and get hair cuts that are indluenced by the band. The fact that the band have a blog as their main website links to their fanbase which are renoung as the "blogging generation" Foals were nominated for the mercuart music prize in 2010 but were beaten by the XX.

"we are like vultures" agrees phillipakis. If you take western pop music and other more culturally deiverse froms and turn them into carcesses, we are the vultures that pick at them and take what we like and create something new and wierd that still has elements of what existed before. Everything we do is about taking culturally diverse influences. i think there is an arrogance in making music like a british band, or like you are supposed to. I find it really insulting when people define their music by their class or nationality - like if you're working class you have to play a certain tyle of music. I dont think you can define culture in that sort of way"

I think the statement at the end of that quote is very true, just because their article is in the independant does not mean that they themselves are middle class however i think the way the newspaper represents them puts them across to a middle class background which isnt necessarily correct. The foals have also had articles in the guardian, Rocksound magazine, NME, the daily mail and the london metro. The image above shows the band as laid back, fashionable, twenty something guys who play good music and have a large, diverse fan base.

Audience Research.

As part of my Audience Research I took part in the http://www.findyoutribe.co.uk/ website.

It askes you a series of questions based mainly around your consumer habits. E.g. Tv, Newspapers, Music and Lifestyle. It askes you about the contents of your bag, the drugs you have consumed, the magazines you read, the tv you watch, the type of alcohol you drink and all of this infomation helps to catagorise you by your consumer habits into one of the following. There is a massive grey area when it comes to defining people based on music and to an extent the way they dress but this website goes into more depth down to what newspapers you read, radio stationsyou listen to, Drugs you have taken, Internet Use.... the list goes on. I think that there will always be some exceptions, however this website is fairly accurate. For Example, the First time i did it i was labeled an "Indie Scenester" I resubmitted my answeres and it changed a few minor things and was labeled a "Skater" and was closely linked with a "Mosher". I would not classify myself as any of these however i can see how the website has linked me to them through the infomation i put in. Certain aspects of my lifestyle can be linked with Skaters for example the music i listen to, the way i like to live my life and sometimes the clothes i wear. Alot of the things that can link me to these specific tribes are really to do with music. I like a large variety of music but prodominantly the music that i listen to The same with Indie Scenesters, i am definately not an 'indie scenester' but i can understand how the computer generated that answer based on what i submitted.

The Highest percent of people in most places were Townies and closley second was indie Scenesters. These two lifestyles are most popular across britan at the moment. On find your tribe you can find out what the biggest "tribe" in your part of the country is, based on the FindYourTribe Statistics. For example the largest "tribe" in Norwich is indie Scenesters but in Scotland the highest percentage of people are townies. I think that this website only takes into account people that are the extremes of these tribes, However some people like myself fall between several catagories will be labeled as one.

Lyrics for "Orange for a Head"

A man walks into a bar
Has an orange for a head
No facial features
But just a orange instead
He wore an orange suit, and had a head of zest
He went up to the bar and he went hey, ill have a pint of best
Then a man comes up to him
Sez why you got an orange for a head
Well, it’s a long story it kinda
goes like this

Well, what happened was
I was granted three wishes of my demise?
What was the first wish the man said
I wish I could have an infinite amount of money
What was the second wish the man said
I wish I could have any girl I wanted in the whole world
And what was the third wish the man said
And the third wish was
I wish I had an orange for a head
Woaaaaaaaaaah
Because
I wish
I wish
I wish
An orange for a head
I wish
I wish
An orange for a head ( times 8)

What really happened was
I was on my holiday
And I had my 5 a day
On my holiday
Had my 5 a day
On my holiday
Had my 5 a day
On my holiday
So look out

I wish
I wish And orange for a head (times 8)
